Alan Parsons rips audiophiles in interview

The revered producer and head sound engineer of THE audiophile benchmark  "Dark Side of the Moon"  told CE Pro that audio enthusiasts focus too much on gear and brands  and not enough about room acoustics. He opined that a decent system could be had at a Costco or a Walmart and in the right acoustically sound room sound better than a much better(i.e expensive) system placed in an sub-optimal one.
For those with far too much disposal income that beat their chests in audio forums the overwhelming topics of posts  center around bragging about 15k interconnects, or a pair or 20k monoblock amps rather than discussing room treatments/acoustic improvements such as foam or dampening rugs on a wall.  Sex sells right?
Bragging rights in the world of audiophilia are too focused on gear because it is much easier to garner praise and hence respect by listing gear and associated statistics vs. sonic quality which is an aggregate of source, gear, and acoustics. The latter is subjective to the listener and impossible to share with others over the web. Those with the right intentions and pure of heart will take all aspects of musical fidelity into account and solicit the opinion of peers that are capable of physically listening to said enthusiast's setup.
Some curious things that Parson says is that he doesn't listen to any music recreationally outside of the studio except sometimes in his car....  Interpret it however you want. Perhaps he wants to save his ears for his work or he just gets his fill in the studio. I cannot imagine a life without listening to music as much as I can :)
He also went on to slam Youtube posters who upload crappy versions of albums and TV sound engineers for terrible sound quality calling for the latter to step it up.
